Roopkala Heritage - Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our sarees, exquisite fabrics, styling services, and shopping with us online or in-store.

We specialize in bridal and occasion sarees — think Banarasi silk, pure silk, organza, tussar silk, georgette, chiffon, and dola silk. Every saree is chosen for weddings, festivals, and special celebrations, not everyday wear. If it's a big day, we've got a saree for it.

We're not a mass-market saree shop. Since 1952, our Santacruz (Mumbai) store has hand-curated each piece — real zari work, handloom weaves, and detailing you won't find on every rack. Every saree is picked (or made) to look special in photos and to hold up for years, not just one function.

We have something for almost every budget:

  • Under ₹20,000: Everyday festive sarees, lighter georgette and organza pieces.
  • ₹20,000–₹50,000: Designer silks, tussar, and detailed embroidery work.
  • ₹50,000–₹1 lakh+: Premium Banarasi silks and heavier bridal-grade pieces.
  • ₹1 lakh and above: Full bridal lehengas and our most exclusive heirloom-style silks.

There's no single "starting price" — it really depends on the fabric and how much handwork is on it.

Anyone dressing for a wedding, festival, or big celebration — brides, the bride's family, wedding guests, and anyone who wants a saree that feels special rather than everyday. We also work well for NRIs and out-of-town customers who can't visit in person, thanks to our video call shopping service.

Here's the honest difference:

  • ₹15k range: Lighter fabrics (georgette, organza, printed silk), simple to moderate embroidery, great for guests and smaller functions.
  • ₹40k range: Richer fabrics like tussar or pure silk, more detailed embroidery or zari work, ideal for sangeet or reception.
  • ₹1 lakh+: Heavy Banarasi silk or bridal-grade weaves, dense handwork (zari, zardosi, sequins), the kind of piece meant to be the outfit of the day.

The price mostly reflects the fabric quality and how many hours of handwork went into it — not just the "brand."

  • Haldi: Light, breathable fabrics in yellow or bright tones (cotton silk, georgette) — comfortable in Mumbai's heat and humidity.
  • Mehendi: Flowy chiffon or organza in vibrant colors — easy to move around in for hours of celebration.
  • Sangeet: Georgette or crepe with sequins and embellishment — something that catches the light on stage or dance floor.
  • Wedding/Reception: Banarasi silk or a heavy bridal saree — rich, structured, and photograph-ready.

Mumbai's humidity is a real factor, so for daytime functions we usually steer people toward lighter fabrics, and save the heavier silks for evening events.

We ship worldwide, and shipping is free on orders over $100.

You don't have to visit Mumbai — we offer video call shopping appointments, and our stylists speak English, Hindi, Gujarati, and Marathi.

Sizing can be tricky from abroad, so we recommend booking a video call so our stylist can guide you through measurements before you order.

Do order with enough lead time before your event, since international shipping and any customization takes longer than local delivery.

Our Ready-to-Ship collection is dispatched within 24 hours — these are pieces already stitched and in stock, perfect if your event is coming up soon. Anything outside that collection may need a little more time, especially if it involves an unstitched blouse or custom sizing.

For a petite frame, our stylists usually suggest:

  • Sarees with smaller, denser prints or borders rather than very large motifs, which can overwhelm a shorter frame.
  • Lighter, flowier fabrics (georgette, chiffon) that drape without adding bulk.
  • A contrast blouse or a well-placed border to create the illusion of height.
  • Draping the pallu slightly higher on the shoulder, which visually elongates the body.

Every draping tip works best when tailored to the actual person, though — that's exactly what our video call styling sessions are for.

A few things come up again and again:

  • Buying the blouse in the wrong size "to be safe." A blouse that's even slightly off changes how the whole saree sits - always get it stitched to your actual measurements.
  • Choosing a heavy saree for a daytime or outdoor function. It looks great in photos but can be uncomfortable in Mumbai heat - match the fabric to the time and setting of the event.
  • Leaving the blouse stitching to the last minute. To avoid last-minute stress, place your order at least 2–3 weeks before your event.
  • Not trying draping styles before the day. A quick video call or in-store trial run avoids surprises on the big day.

Standard stitching usually takes about 7–10 working days once we have your measurements. If your event is closer than that, let us know we can often prioritize urgent orders, but it's always safer to order 2-3 weeks ahead so there's time for a trial and any small adjustments.

Yes. Most sarees come with an unstitched blouse piece, so you can choose the blouse design, neckline, and sleeve style you want. Saree length and petticoat requirements can also be adjusted. Some color customization is possible depending on the piece. Best confirmed with our stylist during a video call.

An unstitched blouse is just a fabric piece. You get it tailored to your exact measurements, which usually gives the best fit. A stitched blouse comes ready-made in a standard size, so it's faster but may need minor alterations. Most of our bridal and premium sarees come with unstitched blouse fabric so the fit is perfect for you.

The easiest way is to book a video call appointment. Our stylist will walk you through each measurement step by step while you're on camera, so nothing gets missed. If you'd rather do it alone, we can also send a simple measurement guide; just make sure to measure over the innerwear you'll actually wear on the day, and keep the measuring tape snug but not tight.

We offer easy exchanges if a saree doesn't work out for you. Since sarees are semi-custom (especially with unstitched blouses), a few conditions apply: the piece needs to be unused and in original condition. For exact timelines and process, check the Returns & Exchange page or message us directly.

Avoid choosing only by colour or price. Check the fabric, blouse type, measurements, product details, delivery timeline and exchange policy before ordering. If you are unsure about the style or fit, speak with a stylist before making your purchase.

You book a slot on our website, and one of our stylists hops on a video call with you. Showing sarees live, explaining fabric and work in detail, and helping you decide based on your event, skin tone, and budget. It's the next best thing to visiting the Santacruz store in person, and it's especially popular with NRIs and out-of-station customers.

Every product page mentions the exact fabric (like pure silk, tussar silk, or art silk, which is a silk-look synthetic). If you're ever unsure, ask your stylist directly during a video call or via chat — we're upfront about what's real silk versus a silk blend, since the price and care needs are quite different.

Heavy silks and embroidered sarees should always be dry cleaned, not washed at home. This protects the zari, sequins, and embellishment. For storage, wrap the saree in a soft muslin cloth and avoid direct plastic contact, which can cause the fabric to yellow over time. Refold along different lines every few months so the silk doesn't crease permanently in one spot.

We focus primarily on the outfit — saree, lehenga, or suit along with blouse customization and draping guidance. Our stylists can also advise on complementary colors, silhouette, and general styling direction for your event, especially during a video call consultation, though we're not a full hair-and-makeup bridal studio.
